FAQ

What is direct-to-garment printing?

DTG printing technology is used to print a design directly onto a t-shirt using an inkjet system, similar to a desktop printer. The ink is specially formulated to bond with the fabric of the shirt to provide a long-lasting and vibrant print. DTG printing allows us to print in a range of millions of colors in high-resolution photo quality.

How is DTG printing different from traditional screen printing?

Traditional screen printing requires a separate screen for each color in your design, as only one color can be applied at a time. The more colors you use, the more expensive your shirt will be. Many screen printers will include a fee for each screen used, which can increase costs greatly.

Because the ink is thicker and sits on top of the shirt, screen prints can often feel rough to the touch. DTG prints are much softer and feel smoother than screen prints, which makes your shirt more comfortable and flexible.

Screen prints can also crack and deteriorate over time when washed several times. DTG inks are cured and sealed on the shirt and are wash-rated for dozens of washes without deterioration, providing long-lasting color and quality for your shirts.

With DTG printing, there is no set up for your design and no limitation on the number of colors you can use. The process is also much quicker, allowing faster turnaround time.

How much does it cost?

Our prices vary based on a few factors, including the base cost of the blank shirt, the amount of ink and pretreatment solution used, and the cost of labor. Sales tax (7%) and shipping also apply to each order.

The largest determining factor is your artwork. The cost is not based on the number of colors, but the amount of ink used per shirt. Larger, denser prints will cost more, while smaller, simpler designs will cost less. Full-color printing costs only a few cents more than printing one color.

Shirts sized 2XL and above will cost slightly more, due to the increased cost of the blank shirt.

Shipping costs vary depending on how quickly you want to receive your order. We also offer local delivery within 20 miles of Newberry, SC, for $10. Special arrangements may also be made upon request.

Is there a minimum amount I must order?

There is no minimum order limit. You can order as many as you need—even just a single shirt.

Can you create a design for my shirts?

Absolutely! Custom design starts at $50 per order for text-based designs. Illustrative services are also available upon request. Please contact us about your idea to receive a customized quote.

How long will it take to receive my order?

Under normal circumstances, small orders of less than 100 shirts can be completed within two to three days. Larger orders of 100+ can be completed and delivered in under a week.

What types of garments can you print on?

We can print on t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, polos, shorts, and much more. We specialize in printing on 100% cotton or cotton/polyester blended garments.

IMPORTANT: Because DTG printing uses water-based inks that do not properly bond with synthetic fabrics, we cannot print on 100% polyester/synthetic garments at this time.

What brands are available?

We carry Gildan, Anvil, Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, American Apparel, Next Level, Bella+Canvas, Tultex, and many more. Please ask about the availability of a specific brand.

Organic cotton shirts are also available upon request.

How do I request a quote?

You may either submit your information here on our site or email us directly at orders@threadforge.co. You’ll be asked to provide us with your idea, your artwork, and preferred shirt style, and we’ll do the rest.

Can I pick up my order from your shop?

Because we do not have a traditional store front, pick up is not currently available. We do offer shipping via USPS, UPS, and FedEx, or local delivery within 20 miles of Newberry, SC.
